🗞 TL;DR - Yesterday, Google hosted its annual I/O conference and announced a bunch of new updates including a range of AI tools, ad updates, shopping advances, the evolution of Search, and more. We’ve listed out the key updates marketers should be aware of below.

💡 Insight - Google’s planning to launch a new shopping experience in AI Mode in search, which will provide users with more assistance in narrowing down the product search process. Users will get a broader overview of results and Gemini will ask more questions to narrow down the right product matches.

Google’s adding an updated “agentic checkout” option which will buy a product for a user if/when the price drops. It allows users to build an alert based on their preferred price (along with color preferences, sizing info, etc.) and when the price drops Google will alert the user and buy it for them immediately.

They’re also adding a virtual try-on process which will overlay alternate clothing options on a custom image generation model of the user to get a better idea of how items fit on them personally.

In non-shopping world, Google unveiled Google Beam, an AI-powered video communications platform that transforms 2D video streams into a 3D experience by using multiple cameras (6 total) to capture the user’s scene and using AI to merge it into a single replication.

It’s also adding “AI Mode” to Google Search to incorporate more advanced reasoning and answer more complex queries, alongside new deep research capabilities and multimodal search functionality.

Lastly, its Veo 3 video generation tools and Imagen 4 image generation model are getting more powerful with better visual outputs, sound generation capabilities, and AI-generated filmmaking capabilities.

🪲 Google Ads has a bug that stalls spending for New Customer Acquisition. The bug, which was confirmed by Google Ads, started May 15 and causes New Customer Acquisition (NCA) campaigns to stop spending budgets. The team is actively working on a fix with no specific timeline.
