💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - AI is cool and all, but it turns out that it can’t solve all your problems. Some businesses are learning the hard way that when AI is implemented without oversight, expertise, or intention, these tools may cause more problems than they solve. This isn’t an argument against AI, just the lazy use of it.
💡 Insight - What kind of problems can lazy implementations of AI cause?
Mediocre creative work, like copy or visuals. Many companies have turned to AI tools to save time and cost, but instead AI-generated text manifests more as vanilla, predictable outputs that end up needing fixing from real human writers. According to a recent study, real-world productivity gains from AI chatbots are far below expectations with low quality results.
Quick fixes and updates with faulty solutions. Agency leaders have seen clients go to AI tools like ChatGPT first, instead of consulting the experts. In one particular case, a client used AI-generated code to update an event page – a shortcut which crashed the entire website, leading to three days of downtime and a costly repair bill.
Unrealistic expectations of human standards at AI speed. Many people underestimate the time and effort it takes to produce effective writing, in large part because AI makes it seem like everything is just a few minutes’ work. But good creating using thorough human thinking takes time.
The moral of the story? Rushing into an AI solution may save time upfront, but can lead to more expensive problems down the line. AI is still best implemented when done thoughtfully and as a supplement to human expertise.
