💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - Only 44% of marketing leaders call their teams experts at measuring social’s business value, however 80% are shifting spend from traditional channels to social. The biggest barrier still remains to be integration because most social tools don’t sync with martech stacks, and fewer than half embed social data into their CRM.
💡 Insight - The issue isn’t just tools, it’s philosophy. Most organizations rely on last-click attribution, ignore intent signals from engagement, and lose insights in fragmented data. Meanwhile, engagement rose 20% even when posting volume decreased, proving quality interactions is what drives real consumers to go from preference to purchase. Teams with executive backing are far more likely to prove ROI through integrated reporting (I know, shocker!). Here’s how you can keep up -
1. Replace last-click with multi-touch attribution: Last-click models undervalue social because they ignore its role in discovery and consideration but multi-touch attribution can better reflect how social influences the entire funnel, from awareness to conversion.
2. Integrate social data into CRM and analytics: When social data lives in silos, you miss the ability to prove real ROI (which you absolutely need in the age of AI-can-replace-social-pros). Connecting it to CRM and analytics platforms shows how social drives pipeline, revenue, and retention.
3. Treat social like a revenue channel: Social is no longer just for awareness or PR wins, it is got the power to drive measurable conversions and deserve investment like any other performance marketing channel. It might not be as linear or direct as other channels because there are a lot of intangibles like audience behavior, trends, virality etc. but the foundation exists.
4. Translate social metrics into business KPIs: Likes and comments don’t speak to the C-suite. Frame social results in terms of CAC, retention, and pipeline velocity to show how its moving the needle. For leaders, virality doesn’t mean conversion, so sit down with your analytics expert and connect the data dots to show the impact (+ get buy-in on your next idea!).
Social is not a vanity channel. It's a full-funnel growth driver where the issue isn't impact, it's measurement and better hypotheses.
