🗞 TL;DR - Now that Cannes Lions is over, experts are reporting the key trends every marketer and advertiser was talking about on the Croissette. According to Adweek’s pros, it boiled down to 6 trends that continually resurfaced.
💡 Insight - Here are the 6 key trends Adweek identified at Cannes Lions this year:
The creator economy has hit an inflection point. Brands jumped on the hype creators presented without any real direction, but now they’re investing in long-term collaborations, creator-led media, and commerce experiences. Creator marketing is evolving into a full-funnel growth strategy.
Media is going beyond just writing. Many newsletter writers are reformatting their content to be lighter and less text-heavy, while others are leaning into audio and video formats. This is likely an overcorrection but will have major implications for the future of media.
Format is secondary to IP. The convergence of formats has made medium-specific practitioners out-of-date. Great material is no longer limited to one delivery vehicle, with original ideas being the primary indicator of success.
FOBO dominates AI. The fear of being obsolete is leading so many marketers and creatives to wonder: will technology replace us? The thinking right now is split: some say yes, others say people are betting too much on AI.
AI agents are coming for your group chat. Many marketing tools are making agents that can stand in for brands, publishers, or even creators mimicking a company’s visual identity to make the consumer experience more uniform.
The value of news content is rising. LLMs have trained on essentially all the data available on the web. So now, the main differentiator is access to new, quality information (something AI isn’t as strong at creating… yet). This is mostly a sentiment shared by the most influential media outlets, not really content creators.
