Today's Essential Marketing News & Tips
I think the next “Is it cake?” show will be “Is this AI?” and how meta would it be if it was Netflix’s first AI-generated show? 👀
🙄 Yeah, I was skeptical too

🗣️ Reddit told brands to "act like a citizen, not like a billboard". Reddit EVP of Community, Laura Nestler, said brands that listen, contribute, and respect each subreddit's culture consistently outperform those that treat the platform like any other social channel, especially as more shoppers research purchases there.

💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - Everyone's fighting to win individual AI prompts. Wrong game. Semrush and Kevin Indig analyzed 50,000 brands across 1,094 topic categories in ChatGPT and found only 15.2% of topics have a clear brand owner. The rest are up for grabs. Weirder still, the most-asked-about topics are the least likely to have a dominant brand, and strong SEO fundamentals predicted topic ownership only about half the time. AI visibility is a topic-level game, and almost nobody has won it…yet.
💡 Insight - How to claim a topic before someone else does:
Stop tracking prompts, start tracking topics. Ownership means showing up in at least 4 of 5 related buyer questions (definition, comparison, alternatives, use case, buying). Winning one prompt while missing the other four means you own nothing.
Don't assume your SEO strength carries over. Owners had higher Authority Scores in just 52.5% of matchups and higher organic traffic in only 48.4%. In nearly half the topics, the runner-up had the stronger SEO profile and still lost.
Pick 2-3 categories and go deep. Spreading authority-building across every topic dilutes everything. Choose categories where you already have content, signal, and a real product angle.
Build the three signals together. Broad content coverage across a topic's question set, mentions in the sources ChatGPT pulls from (Reddit, review sites, industry pubs), and consistent entity signals like structured data and third-party citations.
Mind your margin. Owners with a 5-point lead held their spot in 90% of month-over-month checks; narrow leads flipped constantly. If you lead narrowly, keep pushing. If a competitor leads narrowly, now is the moment to attack.
🔑 Takeaway - 98% of AI search volume lands in topics without a clear winner. That's not a threat, it's the biggest open land grab in search right now, and it closes once leaders consolidate wide margins.
