💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - Google just released its 2025 Year in Review detailing its product launches, upgrades, and improvements, driven largely by Gemini AI. Search Engine Journal outlined all of the 2025 releases that impacted advertisers and marketers, as well as what they can tell us about the future of SEO, PPC, and digital marketing.

💡 Insight - As SEJ mentions, Google spent a great deal of 2025 redefining how Search works, particularly around discovery and conversational intent. These changes impact where ads can appear and how early advertisers can influence purchasing journeys.

Here are just a few of the updates that impact advertisers:

  • Google expanded Ads in AI Overviews globally across mobile and desktop

  • AI Mode now allows ads to appear below and within these multi-step answers when relevant

  • AI Max extended its feature set and remains one of Google’s fastest-growing Search products with experiments, creative guidelines, and text customization giving advertisers more control over AI-generated assets

  • Smart Bidding Exploration has led to an average 18% increase in unique converting query categories and a 19% conversion lift when advertisers used flexible ROAS targets

  • Performance Max received some much overdue reporting and control features that helped PPC managers better understand where performance originates and give advertisers the ability to tighten or expand performance intentionally (vs reactively)

  • Asset Studio and Nano Banana Pro help to give advertisers more control over creative quality and workflow efficiency in ad performance
