🤝 Meta is acquiring Chinese AI startup Manus. The acquisition will help Meta ramp up efforts to integrate advanced AI across its platforms using Manus’ general-purpose AI agent.

👻 Snapchat added a custom AI lens feature. The new “Animate It” Lens, available now for paying Snap users, enables users to activate an animation in Snaps via text prompts.

💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - This year, one of the biggest unnoticed changes from Google was their removal of reviews at unprecedented rates. GMBapi ran an industry analysis of 60,000 Google Business Profiles to uncover why reviews are disappearing fast.

💡 Insight - Review deletions are being driven by a mix of automated moderation, industry-wide risk factors, increased enforcement against incentivized reviews, and local regulatory pressure. It’s also no longer limited to reviews with negative feedback – a significant number of five-star reviews are being removed. Any review that looks artificial, templated, or tied to incentives is at risk.

Restaurants, home services, retail, and construction are seeing the highest deletion volumes overall, while medical, beauty, and professional services experience fewer deletions (but a higher percentage of five-star reviews being removed).

Timing and geography also play a role. Some industries lose reviews within months, while others see older reviews removed retroactively. Regionally, English-speaking markets tend to see more positive reviews deleted due to spam enforcement, while countries like Germany see higher removal of negative reviews tied to defamation laws.

The bottom line is that Google reviews still matter, but sustainable growth now requires quality, consistency, and active monitoring, not just volume.
