🗞 TL;DR - AI image generators have quickly become a practical alternative to stock photos and manual design, enabling marketers to create custom visuals from simple text prompts. Buffer tested and rounded up the list of the 9 top AI image generators, and we’ve got the highlights for you below.
💡 Insight - Here are the key takeaways from Buffer’s test:
Google’s Nano Banana 2 was the most consistent performer overall, nailing illustration accuracy, photorealism, and typography. This is the model they suggest if you only want to try one.
Seedream and Ideogram 3.0 were the most reliable at spelling and placing text, whereas Midjourney and GPT Image garbled words or skipped them entirely.
That said, Midjourney definitely lives up to its expectation as the “artistic” AI image generator and is best for creators who want mood-driven visuals.
If you’re looking for clean commercial licensing, Adobe’s Firefly 5 is your best bet and it comes with the additional selling point that it’s got a workflow integration with Photoshop and Illustrator.
Of course, if you’re already using ChatGPT and just want quick image generation without switching tools, GPT Image 1.5 is fine, especially if prompt adherence matters more than aesthetics.
