🗞 TL;DR - For Gen Z, social media is their primary hub for search, discovery, communication, and commerce. With 80% of Gen Z users on Facebook and Instagram, 74% on YouTube, and 72% on TikTok, social platforms are a full-funnel channel for younger audiences, which makes it an avenue brands should absolutely be paying attention to.

💡 Insight - Gen Z uses social for everything: discovering products, consuming news, engaging with communities, and even customer service interactions with brands. They also expect brands to meet them there by responding quickly, participating in conversations, and providing value beyond promotion.

Content preferences skew toward authentic, relatable, and visually engaging formats, especially short-form video and creator-led content. At the same time, Gen Z is highly intentional about curating their feeds. They actively follow, unfollow, and engage to shape what they see, meaning relevance is critical.

Gen Z is significantly more likely than older generations to buy products discovered on social, reinforcing its role as a revenue driver. Brands who want to find success with younger audiences on social should:

  • Treat social as a search engine. Optimize content with keywords, clear hooks, and intent-driven topics to capture discovery within feeds.

  • Build for full-funnel conversion. Don’t separate awareness and conversion. Gen Z moves from discovery to purchase within the same platform.

  • Be responsive and conversational. Fast replies and active engagement are expected, not optional.

  • Leverage creators and communities. Influencers and niche communities drive trust and distribution more than brand-only content.
