💡 Today’s Insight: First thoughts & survival strategies for Google’s AI Mode
🚫 Stop Trusting Shopify Analytics
Shopify shows you “traffic,” but what they really mean is junk. Bounced sessions, failed page loads, bots… all counted towards your total traffic count.
No wonder your conversion rate doesn’t make sense! Heatmap's new web analytics tool finally gives e-commerce brands a source of truth:
✅ Filtering out bot traffic and bounces
✅ Accurate conversion and attribution data
✅ All-in-one dashboard made for CRO
✅ Plug-and-play setup, no devs needed
...all for a flat $29/mo!
💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - While this feature is currently only active in the U.S., Google’s AI Mode tab in Search results is a big change, allowing users to get an AI-generated answer to their query. Search Engine Journal’s Barry Adams tested out the tool and offered up his initial thoughts and key strategies to survive the tool… and we’ve listed the highlights below.
💡 Insight - Generally, the tool seems promising. That said, its answers are almost too good in a way that might reduce click throughs to cited source websites. Adams says that the interface makes it simpler to ask AI Mode a follow-up question rather than click to a webpage.
Unlike AI Overviews, AI Mode will provide summaries for almost any query, including news-specific queries. However, also unlike AI Mode, the user adoption rate appears to be low. Beyond its initial growth, usage of the tab has dipped and now sits at just over 1% – half as popular as the News tab (which already isn’t that popular). Maybe people are just simply happy with AI Overviews.
So, if AI Mode becomes the new default Google result, how can you survive?
Don’t focus heavily on optimizing for visibility in AI answers. Seriously. The CTR for cited sources is likely to be very low, so this is just wasted effort.
Work on expanding your presence on Google’s Discover feed… but don’t work too hard. The unfortunate reality is that clickbait headlines and cheap takes always do well in the Discover feed, but that’s not a sustainable strategy.
Grow traffic and income from more channels than just search. Google is the gatekeeper of most of the web’s traffic, but it’s not the only way to get views on your content. Consider trying out podcasts, social media, or newsletters (and we can even help with this!)
Build a strong brand that is actively sought out by your audience. If someone wants to visit your website, they’ll come to you directly. Tune out all the noise and focus on turning brand strength into audience loyalty.
