💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - In this era of AI-enabled search, users have increasingly swapped short keywords with more conversational prompts. Without an AI-specific equivalent of Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools, SEO professionals can’t see for sure what’s impacting AI search performance. But proxies can help emulate how this journey works.

💡 Insight - Here’s are a few other data points you can use as proxies to find prompts used by your audience:

People Also Ask (PAA) in Search results suggests multiple related questions to your query. Go query by query to find relevant PAAs or use AlsoAsked to extract the exact questions at scale.

Userbots like ChatGPT-User and Perplexity-User are powerful ways to see how your pages are being used in AI Search. While it doesn’t give you the prompts used, it will help you assess which pages are being cited without trying to guess by tracking prompts that may or may not be relevant.

For the coding-savvy SEO experts, long queries on Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools can find queries that resemble the behavior we expect on AI platforms. Search Engine Land has a huge regex you can copy and past to your GSC to get started.

Perplexity’s ‘Related’ follow-up prompts are a good indicator of how humans prompt–or at least how the platform expects humans to prompt it. The answers are country-specific though, so make sure to run your research locally.

Semrush’s AI Visibility Tool has a feature called “Prompt Research” that matches your keyword to a topic and gives you a list of prompts alongside brands mentioned, intent, and sources.
