🗞 TL;DR - Don’t retire search engine optimization from your growth strategy quite yet. Despite the rumors that LLMs will be the death of SEO, big-name generative search engines are successfully scaling organic content through traditional tactics.
💡 Insight - Through an in-depth audit, Search Engine Land showed how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude are progressing with SEO, and how GPT’s strategy in particular is really paying off.
The numbers: ChatGPT leads the charge with 76.5M monthly visits, a projected $92M in annual revenue at a 0.5% conversion rate and a $20 price point, and a 15,200% ROI on an estimated $600K SEO investment.
Claude and Perplexity lag in monthly visits, with 908,000 and 1.7M, and an ROI of 82-240%, respectively.
Eyes on ChatGPT: ChatGPT is currently miles ahead of its competitors in the SEO rat race because the team recognizes that searching for answers remains a deeply human instinct. As a result, OpenAI is expanding its search behavior and increasing Google searches in certain use cases.
SEO’s nine lives: If you needed further proof of OpenAI’s commitment to driving growth through search engine optimization, the company opened up two positions for SEO-focused content strategists last year (at a whopping $400,000/year salary 😮💨). This tells us that ChatGPT is building SEO into its foundation and is continuing to invest in it.
