🗞 TL;DR - Snapchat just published a new report looking at the overall effectiveness of skippable vs non-skippable ads and how users respond to each. Turns out, skippable ads might not be as bad as you might think.
💡 Insight - Here’s what the study found:
The first two seconds of an ad are key, so branding should be upfront from second zero. Non-skippable ads drive slightly better recall overall, but both follow a similar attention curve.
Metrics such as brand preference and interest were more positively impacted when combining skippable and non-skippable formats compared to a single ad format. (Of course, Snap is going to say this so you spend more on a broader ad approach.) Looking at the data, non-skippable ads lead to better recall if you had to choose just one.
While it might be specific to just Snap users, 81% of viewers globally said “they liked that they weren’t forced to watch the full ad.” That should be taken with a huge grain of salt based on your ad platform and your campaign itself.
