💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - Sprout Social did a solid mid-year checkup on how brands are using social media this year and identifying the brands that are making users stop mid-scroll to share with friends, family, and colleagues. We’ve got the full highlights below and what you can learn from these top brands 👇
💡 Insight - Sprout’s analysis broke the top social-savvy brands into themes:
Employee-generated content. This year has been huge for this theme with 4 in 10 customers now reporting frequently discovering a product or service through employee-generated content. The best brands in this avenue include:
AI content creation platform Slate who’s social team is made up of creators with personal brands who use their respective LinkedIn channels to post about the company’s culture and products
The LA Public Library who uses their librarians to “edutain” on pop culture topics, events, and more
Third spaces and IRL experiences. A handful of brands are creating moving, celebratory, and whimsical experiences for their in-person attendees and translating them into social engagement. These best brands include:
LA Metro x NathanialPOV who weaved together posts to highlight new train lines, tell stories about the people connected by LA public transit, and embrace creator partnerships, such as with NathanialPOV at Union Station, a creator known for his sax performances
Creative operations brand Air bankrolled Boy Throb’s first-ever concert, capitalizing on the band’s 2M followers who are trying to prove they’re a real band to get one of their members’ a US visa
Timely moments and trends. Brands need to be fluent in online culture nowadays and understand when a trend is right for them to jump on (or not). Examples include:
McDonald’s viral video that appeared to be a scene straight from the scary movie “Backrooms” dropped on the day of the film’s release but featuring its branded items
IKEA constantly creates such timely content with recent examples jumping on Punch the Monkey, Taylor Swift’s Toy Story clouds, and Bridgerton’s bath scene
