Today's news, tips, & tools you need to know

1 - Tik Tok Is Really Desperate To Stay In The US

📰 TL;DR - It's been a rocky road (that ice cream flavor is gross by the way) for Tik Tok in the US for the last 5 or so years. With constant threats questioning if Tik Tok will be banned in the US, we thought they tried just about everything to stay, besides selling the US division ot Tik Tok to a US company, until this. Reports say that Tik Tok has offered the US government almost full access to its algorithm to prove the Chinese Government is not spying on US citizens and particularly, government officials. That's a big offer!

💡 Insight - We have to ask, why won't they give the whole algo to the US government for review? The fact that they won't give full access proves some sketchiness for sure.

🙏🏼 Pro Tip - Regardless of the above, we highly recommend scheduling a monthly calendar block to download all of your most recently posted Tik Tok videos ;)

2 - The Framework For High Converting Landing Pages

📰 TL;DR - Mr. Oliver Kenyon is one of the most underrated twitter follows. He has been helping brands with CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization aka how to get more people who land on your website or landing pages to purchase your product to fill out a form) for more than 10 years! And he just introduced his "the only framework you need to follow for a high-converting page." Here is the summary:

  • Attention - Use a strong value proposition, social proof, product imagery, and more...

  • Transformation - This is where you explain the transformation of using your product or service in three simple steps...

  • Interest - This is where you breakdown the benefits and features of your product...

  • Desire - This is where you use testimonials and reviews to create FOMO

  • FAQ - It's important to answer the 7 to 10 most asked questions about your product or service to cut down the time they take to decide or search for answers themselves...

  • Action - You need some social proof next to your strong call to action

But a lot of the time e-commerce marketing tactics and news are unique to people in the e-commerce space so it wouldn't make sense to include those topics in Growth Daily...

🎉 That's why today we are launching DTC Daily!

If you love Growth Daily and want the same style news, tips, & tools you need to know every day in the e-commerce space, then:

4 - Facebook Is Taking On ChatGPT's Parent Company

📰 TL;DR - Facebook's parent company Meta just struck a deal with Shutterstock to get access to their massive library of stock photos and videos for a new AI to compete with ChatGPT's parent company's other project. Few people know that ChatGPT's parent company OpenAI has a version of ChatGPT for visuals where you can ask it to create a painting or picture of anything and it will it do it with amazing accuracy.

Meta has already teased similar products that let people create visuals (maybe for Instagram posts to Facebook ads) with a simple text prompt. Now with their new Shutterstock partnership that technology si going to get much smarter.

💡 Insight - We are super bullish on the visual version of ChatGPT and all similar products... Marketers are only a few years away from consistently leaning on AI for not just written content but visual social content, blog photos, infographics, and ad creative. This is technology (be it from Meta or OpenAi or anyone else) will make it easier, and should significantly cut down the cost, to create visual marketing content. We are embracing it with open arms!

5 - Discord Acquires The "Gas" App

📰 TL;DR - If you aren't familiar with the "Gas" app, you likely don't have high-school kids or don't spend much time on the apple app store rankings page. The app has spent most of its short time in the app store as the #1 app in the US so there are many reasons we marketers would want to pay attention to it. For today's news, it's important to know:

The app lets teen users send anonymous compliments to their friends! And you can pay a small subscription to unlock more data around who is complimented them and other bonus features.

💡 Insight - We believe this is a clear landmine grab to snatch up the fast-growing Gen Z app before Snapchat does. Discord is looking for more revenue and all the opportunities they can to put even more nails in Snapchat's coffin as they both compete for Gen Z attention.

Currently, there are no ads available for purchase inside Gas but you better bet that there will be ads at some point. We will definitely be keeping an eye on "Gas" related opportunities for marketers looking to target Gen Z. In the meantime, this is a great reminder to ask yourself, what small brands or competitors could you scoop up in an acquisition so your competitors don't beat you to it?
