Today's 5 news, tips, & tools you need to know

1 - Tapping Into ASMR Is Generating Huge ROI

šŸ“° TL;DR -Ā ASMR stands for an autonomous sensory meridian response and according to nebraskamed .com, it means "aĀ tingling, static-like, or goosebumps sensation in response to specific triggering audio or visual stimuli" and it's all the rage these days.

Wondering just how big ASMR is? There are countless YouTube videos with millions of views that are simply ASMR sounds and visuals. TikTok videos with #ASMR have garnered more than 557.1b views!

Ok, but how is this relevant to growth marketing?Ā

šŸ’”Insight -Ā Hair Salon franchise Sports Clips recently tapped into ASMR to unveil its newly revamped MVP Haircut Experience. ā€œWe wanted to go deep into the experience and bring it to life in a 30-second script,ā€ said Sport Clipsā€™ senior director of marketing, Danielle Linden.Ā

Another example of a brand generating huge ROI with ASMR is Australian razor brand Camelie. They have garnered more than 220k Tik Tok followers and tens of millions of views with simple ASMR videos of people using their razor to shave.Ā

We anticipate a huge number of brands tapping into the ASMR trend this year.

2 - The Six Ways To Sell More Stuff

šŸ“°Ā TL;DR -Ā Often times the things we read about most in marketing newsletters or blogs, or even learn in marketing classes, are the most important things that we forget to do. Ben Ali recently published an article titled "Looking for some sales secrets? These are the best ones." And although all 6 are definitely not secrets, if you could add just one of these to your marketing strategy this week, it is sure to move the needle!

šŸ’”Insight -Ā Our 3 favorites are:

Scarcity - If you can tap into FOMO, you are sure to move the needle

Anchoring - If I told you that Growth Hacks Unversity costs $197, you might think that was expensive. Now if I told you it is normally $497 a year, but it's available to you for $197 today only, you suddenly feel like you are getting a good deal right? That's anchoring!

Social Proof - you can never have enough of it! Every company on earth should have at least 10 testimonials on their site. No questions asked.Ā

3 - Tik Tok Strikes Partnership With IMDB

šŸ“°Ā TL;DR -Ā The infamous social video platform Tik Tok has struck a deal with the largest entertainment database, IMDB. The partnership will let users tag videos with a particular movie or TV show with a direct link to IMDB for more info.Ā

šŸ’”Insight -Ā  Creators and brands who prioritize content with IMDB tags in the next few weeks will see a huge influx of views to their videos. For example, videos with #WhiteLotus (the HBO smash hit) in the comments have garnered more than 436m views. Because this partnership will make it easier for users to search & discover content on Tik Tok by their favorite shows,Ā Ā we definitely recommend creating content that you can tag viral or cult-followed shows (or movies) ASAP, to show up at the top of the page when people land on pages for "The Social Network" or "Euphoria" ... the possibilities are endless.Ā Ā

4 - Did You Know That 3 Out Of 4 Podcast Listeners Take Action After Hearing A Podcast Ad?

šŸ“°Ā TL;DR -Ā According to StatistaĀ ā€œthe number of podcast listeners [could] surpass 160 million in 2023 after increases of around 20 million each year.ā€Ā And a recent study from Signal Hill Insights found that 3 out of 4 weekly podcast listeners say they have taken action after hearing a podcast ad. Both of these insights tell us there has never been a better time to try podcasting ads!Ā After all, they're only going to get more expensive...

šŸ’”Insight -Ā Both of these insights tell us there has never been a better time to try podcasting ads! They're only going to get more expensive. These stats were found in the only actually valuable section from a recent Forbes article titled "Marketing Trends You Shouldn't Ignore When Crafting Your 2023 Marketing Plan" which was pretty generic... except for these stats! But if you want...

5 - Report: Meta CPMs Declined 28% In "Q5"

šŸ“° TL;DR -Ā Advertisers have recently dubbed the days between Christmas and New Year as Q5. Typically consumers spend this time watching Netflix, eating, sleeping, and scrolling their phones aka a huge opportunity for marketers! Well a recent report from AdWeek shows that CPMs (the cost that Meta charges it's advertisers per 1,000 impressions) for 2022's Q5 declined 28% compared to 2021's Q5.Ā

šŸ’”Insight -Ā This is interesting for two reasons. First, Meta almost never decreases it's cost to advertise for any period, year over year. This is pretty much the first time we have ever seen this kind of decrease indicating perhaps Facebook may be lowering its cost to advertise across the board. Second, numerous sources in AdWeek's reporting were quoted as saying Facebook ads are working the best they have seen in almost 10 years these days, outside of Q5, but especially since Apple's iOS14 privacy update. Perhaps Facebook/Instagram ads aren't going anywhere anytime soon!
