Today's news, tips, & tools you need to know

1 - YouTube Lands A Punch On Tik Tok

📰 TL;DR - YouTube was just announced as the title sponsor at VidCon, one of the largest conferences for brands & digital creators to connect. Why does this deserve the leading spot in today's newsletter? Because Tik Tok has been the title sponsor of VidCon but now YouTube will be front and center at arguably the largest creator event, promoting Shorts.

💡 Insight - There is a real battle between YouTube and Tik Tok for creator content and we are here for it with a full bowl of popcorn! As marketers, we need to keep up to date with the changing landscape and see where content creators + influencers are favoring because that means that, that is where eyeballs will go... and where eyeballs will go, we want to be there!

2 - Brands Can't Target Teens By Gender Anymore

📰 TL;DR - Facebook's parent company Meta recently announced that brands targeting teens will no longer be able to target based on gender starting in February. They are also rolling out a new list of setting preferences only for teenagers to opt out of ads on specific topics.

💡 Insight - If teen spending for one specific gender makes up a lot of your revenue, you have just a few weeks to start testing other platforms.

3 - Will Instagram's New Quiet Mode Feature Lead To Less Engagement?

📰 TL;DR - Meta is busy this week! Their platform Instagram just introduced a "new way to manage your time and focus" by taking a page from AIM's playbook. That's right, you can now change your status which will automatically pause notifications during the certain hours you set in that window and let people know you are in Quiet Mode.

💡 Insight - It makes sense that Apple would have this feature on the iPhone... But this is a head-scratcher from IG. Their whole business model is getting you to spend more time on the app so that they can sell you more ads... We are curious to see how long this lasts.

*The Job Market Is More Competitive Now Than Ever...

📰 TL;DR - Turnover is on the rise, employees are leaving their existing jobs for better opportunities, employers are struggling to anticipate and adapt to this higher level of power on the side of the candidates, and compensation has to increase in order to compete for the best talent.

A company's ability to find affordable and highly-qualified marketing talent fast and at an affordable cost has become a real competitive advantage.

💡 Insight - CXL can help with that thanks to its new Talent Program. They will match you with an experienced and fully vetted full-time contractor, at a cost-effective base salary.

5 - LinkedIn Events Growth Hack

📰 TL;DR - Recently Linkedin published some key stats about their whole platform and there are some noteworthy stats about events on their platform. Because these are published by Linkedin, we have to take them with a grain of salt, but, in 2022 there was:

  • A 176% jump in the number of scheduled Linkedin Live events

  • A 75% increase in the number of spontaneous LinkedIn Live events

  • A 231% increase in annual virtual event creation attendees on the platform

💡 Insight - The numbers kind of speak for themselves... We all should be considering doing live virtual events through LinkedIn. Perhaps look out for a Growth Daily virtual summit through Linkedin sometime soon? These numbers are really compelling!
