🗞 TL;DR - Snapchat is still very much alive and might be your platform blindspot. If you’re stuck thinking that Snapchat was left behind in 2012, Snap’s new report is here to correct you. The report dives into how technology is changing the shopping experience and how social media, in particular, now plays a significant role in driving purchasing decisions – and we’ve got the key takeaways for you below.
💡 Insight - According to the report, AI-powered personalization through augmented reality (AR) and image search are the new reality of how consumers are discovering and purchasing retail products. The data shows that:
63% of Snapchatters say that using AR Lenses reduces their need to visit a physical store
77% of Snapchatters find that visual search helps them find apparel items faster and easier (compared to 50% of non-Snapchatters)
Social platforms are also powerful for sharing word-of-mouth, with 85% of Snapchat users relying on the input of friends and family to guide purchase decisions. The data also shows that 82% of Snapchatters are more likely to pay attention to brands they see their friends and family using.
In regards to the influence of Snap creators on purchase decisions, the data shows:
79% of brands that collaborate with creators feel more socially relevant
77% of brands feel more connected to the cultural conversation
75% feel part of Snapchatters’ inner circles

💨 Google says database speed matters more than page count for crawl budget. The confirmation from a Search Relations team member on a recent podcast also noted that sites with fewer than 1 million pages don’t need to worry about crawl budget.

📷 Instagram now supports 3:4 aspect ratio photos. The new update is helpful as it’s the native format for more phone cameras. Now, when you post an image to IG in 3:4 format, it will be presented in that format in-stream (as opposed to stretching).
