☝️ How Tinder Engaged Millions By Doing Just One Thing

Tinder engaged millions of young voters in political conversations during the U.S. Presidential campaign. The secret was their custom 'Swipe the Vote' solution – an in-app polling feature that drives global engagement on key election issues. This custom solution ultimately underpinned many white-label advertisements on the platform.

How did they do it?

  • Tinder leveraged an already ‘hot topic,’ giving the audience a way to express their opinions through polling.

  • The polling feature was designed to be highly engaging and innovative for the audience.

  • It’s easier for enterprise company employees to get budget allocated from their manager vs. getting the internal dev team to do the work. Tinder realized this and turned to Codingscape who built this super software for them.

💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - Getting people onto your web pages is a constant challenge, but keeping them engaged and scrolling down your site is another challenge entirely. The folks at Conversion Rate Experts made an entire guide on how to get users scrolling down your page so you can get more value out of your content.

💡 Insight - Are long pages a problem? Well, CRE A/B tested web pages just to see which one would perform better, and the page that was six times longer than the control outperformed it by 52%. Consider Amazon’s product pages which are very long. Long pages work.

Does being “above the fold” matter? “Above the fold” refers to the content users can see without scrolling. The results are mixed. Here’s how to determine whether your users are missing important content:

  • Conduct usability tests and observe whether users actually scroll

  • Use a heat-mapping tool like Hotjar to see how visitors scroll through your website

Once you’ve gauged whether or not people are scrolling down your page, here are the top three ways to encourage users to scroll:

  1. Avoid false bottoms (aka bands near the fold)

  2. Make it clear that there’s more if they scroll down

  3. Give your readers compelling reasons to scroll
