🗞 TL;DR - New research from Reddit and WPP of over 13,000 Reddit users examined how prospective buyers use Reddit insights to inform their purchase decisions. While many marketing strategies focus on awareness, consumers often pause before purchasing to verify claims, compare options, and seek trusted opinions, and that's where Reddit excels.
💡 Insight - The study, based on surveys of more than 13,000 Reddit users, found that:
77% visit two or more communities to validate a purchase decision
63% say they are more confident in decisions informed by Reddit discussions than those informed by other social platforms
58% say seeing a brand directly answer customer questions in a thread increases trust
A major takeaway is that Reddit users are often looking for real-world experiences and honest discussion. Rather than confirming a decision they've already made, users often use Reddit to challenge assumptions, compare alternatives, and gather nuanced perspectives before buying.
The study also found that ads placed in contextually relevant communities can generate significantly higher purchase intent than broad keyword targeting alone, reinforcing the importance of community relevance over pure reach.
