🗞 TL;DR - In 2024, Reddit’s presence in search results shot up by about 191%. So, if you’re still not taking Reddit seriously… you’re losing out. With over 1.21 billion monthly users and being the second most common site cited by ChatGPT (first being Wikipedia), it’s a massive opportunity for brands looking to get surfaced in Search and gain trust amongst consumers.

💡 Insight - For most of its time, Reddit has been different than other social networks in that blatant marketing doesn’t fly. If a brand drops into a subreddit community with a straight up advertisement, they’re not gonna last long.

To add to Redditors skepticism of marketers, subreddits each have their own distinct subcultures that take time to understand and contribute to. You have to earn your place by showing up respectfully and always adding value.

NP Digital suggests a three step approach:

  • In the first 2-3 months: Create your profiles and start monitoring conversations. Join subreddits, evaluate post formats and community rules, understand attitudes toward brands. Then, upvote, comment, and blend in (but don’t post anything branded just yet).

  • 1-2 months after that: Now you can start engaging. Answer relevant questions where your product fits, include expert insights, maybe create threads based on common FAQs you see (but make sure it feels natural).

  • After you’ve established a good few months of cadence: Launch your own branded subreddit. Document your processes and start finding ways to increase efficiency and get the most out of Reddit. Build content pillars. Train and involve your support team.

Unfortunately, there’s no ‘go viral fast’ hack that works on Reddit. It’s really all about starting small, staying consistent, and earning your place – but it’s worth it in the long run.
