✨ Today’s Insight ✨

📰 TL;DR - Activity streaks have had the power of compelling behavior for years. From athletes working out every day to artists committing to their craft, psychology even supports this behavior. But it’s also a rapidly growing area of opportunity for marketers.

With brands like Duolingo, Snapchat, and Candy Crush embracing gamification and the use of streaks, they’re getting users to keep coming back again and again.

💡 Insight - Streaks add a higher-level goal to a lower-level goal. Sure, using a singular app every day isn’t necessarily going to change your life. But streaks add a layer to the action that says, “but what if it did?”

If you want your consumers to take action on a streak, make it attainable. Duolingo only requires you to complete one lesson a day to maintain your streak. If they required a larger commitment, it might be too big of an ask for users.

A consumer’s commitment to a streak often depends on how closely one’s identity is tied to the action. For example, if someone wants to be more mindful and spiritual, they might be more committed to maintaining streaks like meditation, praying, or other activities that surround those areas.
