💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - Google may have pulled the plug on pulling the plug on cookies, but that doesn’t mean that all the efforts you went through to adjust were for nothing. Search Engine Land has some ideas of initiatives that still hold value, even in a world with Google’s third-party cookies.

💡 Insight - Here are the five recommendations you might still want to keep even though third-party cookies aren’t going anywhere:

  1. Server-side tracking - This type of tracking users first-party cookies to collect data that you own through CDPs and/or server-side Google Tag Manager tracking. It’s more complicated than setting up third-party cookies, but bypasses typical tracking limitations and client-side ad blockers.

  2. Advanced platform analytics - Advertisers these days have way more options to understand how online actions impact pipeline and revenue – like with Google’s Enhanced Conversions or Meta and LinkedIn’s CAP models. These give you more & richer data to work with to identify high-value users.

  3. A broader perspective on analytics - Experiment with lift tests to assess the actual impact of your ads or test with MMM tools to use historical media data to fine-tune your budget allocations.

  4. Alignment on KPIs - Many brands have too many KPIs in focus or aren’t aligned on the single most important goal. Without knowing what your north star is, you can’t accurately assess cookie tracking.

  5. News and trend monitoring - This shift proves that you should always be keeping up-to-date with industry outlets and what’s affecting similar organizations.
