🗞 TL;DR - Do you have a product targeted at consumers beyond English language speakers? Well, your AI visibility strategy probably isn’t working as well as it could. Most strategies are heavily biased toward English and break down in other languages due to structural, technical, and data limitations. Search Engine Journal outlines why and how you can account for the language barrier.
💡 Insight - AI systems are trained and optimized primarily on English-language data, meaning non-English content has less representation, weaker authority signals, and lower retrieval likelihood. This creates a self-reinforcing loop where English content dominates visibility while localized content struggles to surface.
There are also technical disadvantages. Non-English languages (like Spanish) often require more tokens to express the same ideas, increasing costs and reducing how much content AI systems can process or prioritize.
Instead of relying on direct translation of English content (which fails because AI systems prioritize contextual relevance and local authority), here’s what you should do:
Create original, market-specific content instead of copying English pages. AI favors locally relevant context and examples.
Build local authority signals. Earn mentions, backlinks, and citations from regional publishers, communities, and platforms.
Adapt to language efficiency. Structure content more tightly in non-English markets to offset token and processing limitations.
Invest in entity clarity per market. Define your product, use cases, and positioning clearly in each language.
Allocate resources accordingly. Non-English AI visibility requires dedicated strategy and budget, not an afterthought.
